Helping people uncover the gold beneath the clay.

Welcome

Excavating the Gold Beneath the Clay

For more than 25 years, I've been fascinated by one question.

Why do we become who we become?

As a Clinical Counseling Hypnotherapist, educator, author, and lifelong student of the subconscious mind, I've spent thousands of hours helping people understand why they think, feel, and behave the way they do.

What I've discovered is surprisingly simple.

Very few people need to become someone new.

More often, they need to uncover who they've always been.

The Golden Buddha

There's an ancient story about a group of monks who owned a magnificent solid gold Buddha. When they learned their monastery was about to be invaded, they covered the statue in layers of clay so it would appear worthless.

Centuries later, another group of monks believed they were moving an ordinary clay statue.

When it accidentally cracked, they discovered the gold hidden beneath all along.

I've always loved that story because I think it describes people beautifully.

None of us arrive in the world believing we're not good enough.

We don't arrive believing our dreams are unrealistic.

We don't arrive thinking we should hide parts of ourselves to fit in.

Those beliefs are added over time.

A comment from a parent.

A teacher who underestimated us.

A painful relationship.

A disappointment.

An experience that taught us it wasn't safe to shine.

Each one becomes another handful of clay.

Eventually, there can be so much clay that we forget the gold was ever there.

Everything I create begins with the same belief.

Beneath years of conditioning, expectations, fear, and old stories is someone extraordinary who has never stopped being there.

Whether I'm working with a client, writing a book, creating a course, designing a journal, making a piece of jewelry, or sharing something I've learned along the way, my hope is always the same.

To help you remember the gold beneath the clay.

One Curiosity. Many Expressions.

For years, I thought I had to choose.

Was I a hypnotherapist?

A writer?

A teacher?

An artist?

Moving to Mexico taught me something unexpected.

I'm all of those things.

Like the different facets of a rhinestone, they're simply different ways the same light is reflected.

Everything you'll find here is another expression of the curiosity that has guided me my entire life.

How do our experiences shape us?

How does the subconscious influence the way we think, feel, create, love, and live?

And what becomes possible when we begin uncovering the person we were before life convinced us we had to become someone else?

Testimonials

I wanted to thank you. When I first came to see you I was so afraid to ask for help because of fear of being institutionalized again. I believed I had a list of disorders that could not be cured. I was having flashbacks and panic attacks so terrifying and out of control it was frightening for my whole family. But you were the first person I knew I could trust because you proved it to me.

You were the first person I have experienced empathy and compassion from when it came to my mental health.

After just a few sessions the screaming and cowering panic attacks were under control. You also helped me to realize that there is nothing wrong with me, no lifelong disorders or labels, just normal reactions to life’s situations, and that gave me a lot of hope. You are an authentic, compassionate and very smart woman, and I believe the world needs more people like you. You’ve inspired me to make a change in the system.

Thank you for giving me hope when I felt the end for me was near. I know now that my end is far off, I have a purpose now, and with my experiences in mind I can make a difference. (S. Victoria. PTSD)
